Higher Technological Institutes

WHAT IS A HIGHER TECHNOLOGICAL INSTITUTE?

Higher Technological Institutes (known in Italy with the acronym ITS) are schools of excellence characterized by high technological specialization in areas considered strategic for national economic development and competitiveness. They are not-for-profit organizations in the legal form of Foundations that count among their members companies, universities/research centres, local authorities, education and training institutions.

They represent an opportunity of outmost importance in the Italian education system as an expression of a new strategy that combines education, training and work policies with the country’s industrial policies.

They are the response to the current demand for new and advanced technical skills needed by companies to apply innovation and technology transfer processes, summarized by the concept of “Smart Specialization”.

TECHNOLOGICAL AREAS

Higher Technological Institutes train Engineering Technicians in the six Technological Areas considered strategic for national economic development and competitiveness: Energy Efficiency, Sustainable Mobility, New Life Technologies, New Technologies for Made in Italy (Mechanical Systems, Fashion, Food, Home, Business Services Enterprises), Innovative technologies for cultural heritage and activities – tourism, Information and communication technologies.
